Maybe November and December are your two favorite months of the year.
Perhaps preparing for, living through, and cleaning up after the holidays don’t phase you in the least.
You may have your Christmas shopping all done, your cards ready to mail, and your menus completely planned.
If these are true for you, then The PURSE-onality Challenge “A Holiday-Ready Heart” is not designed for you. (But please join us anyhow and give us your best advice!)
However, if you…
- dread dragging out the holiday decorations…
- wonder how what should be “the best of times” all too often often ends up being “the worst of times”…
- wish you could hibernate from October 30 ’til January 1…
- become overwhelmed by the commercialized chaos that tries to overtake your life in December…
- cringe just thinking about spending yet another holiday with certain people…
- feel like a failure because you never seem able to do everything “just right” for the holidays…
- have an over-full calendar already (and the invitations haven’t even started coming!)
- wonder how on earth you’re going to afford everything this season…
- miss loved ones more than ever during the holidays…
- want to focus on the real reason for the season…
…then I hope you’ll join us in October for “A Holiday-Ready Heart“: 31 days of intentionally pray-paring for the most peace-full, joyous, family-focused, meaning-filled holy-days we can possibly have!
For some, this may take just a slight tweak. For others, this will require a serious overhaul of how we approach the holidays in our hearts.
Each day during October, we’ll examine an issue that often triggers holiday “baditude.” We’ll discuss how to maximize our own purse-onality strengths and intentionally meet the purse-onality needs of those we love. And we’ll plan ahead to be already meditating on God’s word and gratitude when the holidays roll around this year!
Join us for “A Holiday-Ready Heart” if you…
…want to do more than just “go through the motions” this season.
…long to focus on the true Reason for the season!
…desire peace on earth and goodwill toward others this Christmas!
Check out our website and Facebook page for the nitty-gritty details!

What is most challenging for you getting through the holiday season with a good attitude?

The planning and organizing. Keeping the families apart (since they don’t get along) which means more events for us to attend.
Britni —
I’m with you on the planning and organizing! As a Sanguine PURSE-onality, I’m all about the fun…not so much about the details! (And having to tip-toe around various family relationships is certainly no fun.)
I just dread all the expectations that my family has- gifts they want, who to visit, what to make. I wish we could just focus on having peace and fun!
Shonda — If I were to make a Top 10 list of “holiday issues,” expectations would be in the top 3. That’s one of the things I’m going to be actively exploring in October…both personally and with various family members. In some cases, I put a ton of pressure on myself. In others, there really is a lot of pressure to do the “right” things the “right” way at the “right” time. SO with you on wanting to focus on the peace and fun!
I went back to work full time 4 years ago and I struggle every year with getting everything done that my kids consider traditions before the holidays. And then I don’t enjoy myself because I feel like I failed or I am so stressed!
Natalie — I definitely sympathize with that “I failed again” feeling! How old are your children? When I working full-time, I felt guilty that my kids had less of me, so I tried to compensate by spending money, which became a downward spiral leading to — what else?!? — stress!
My struggle is more with the over-commercialization of the holidays, especially Christmas. I would really like the focus to be more on the real reason for the season.
Crickett — So true. I was thinking about how much I hate holiday travel, and then it struck me: Jesus chose to take the most difficult “holiday trip” ever, leaving heaven and coming here.
My struggle is with the clutter that accumulates throughout the house and that worsens our unscheduled-ness. LOL I have been working slowly but we always seem to have ‘too much’ of something and there are always fits(with 5 kids there is bound to be) and then I just don’t want any of it. Cannot wait to do this and make a conscious effort this year to make it different.
kanganroos — I think “simplification” is going to be a major theme for quite a few of us in October! (Right now, the urge to take all boxes in the garage labeled “Christmas decor” straight to the Goodwill is overwhelming…but I always regret my all-or-nothing decisions later!
How old are your children?
My biggest challenge is staying positive and not getting wrapped up in all the commercial aspects of Christmas. My kids don’t love me or Jesus any more for the extra presents I spend too much money on. I am going to try harder this year to not get caught up in all that, spend less but be more intentional about what I do buy. I will enjoy this Purse-onality challenge and reading others stories! Thanks!
